Since its opening in 1992, Gaain Gallery had been very active in the 90¡®s by hosting exhibitions of domestic artists like Guilin Kim, Inhyun Lee, Byunghun Min, Myungseop Hong and Sukwon Park, and of foreign artists including Gottfried Honegger and Roman Opalka. It also organized numerous successful group exhibitions and participated in renowned international art fairs such as Art Basel (1997), Chicago Art Fair (1998) and San Francisco Art Fair (1998).
In fall of 2005, the gallery re-opened its door at a new site in Pyungchang-Dong. Starting with < SPAN>: Carl Andre to Vik Muniz> exhibition which examined the influence of Minimalism on contemporary art, Gaain Gallery has presented various exhibitions of domestic and foreign artists like Byungso Choi, Kyungwoo Chun, Seton Smith, Jason Salavon and Xiaoze Xie, that are not limited to specific genre or medium. In addition to sales of foreign artists¡¯ works, installation of their works in corporate and public environment has allowed our gallery to go beyond art, and expand its field to culture and society.
In addition to organizing various meaningful exhibitions and participating in international art fairs, Gaain Gallery has been branched out the realm of public arts, focusing on harmonization of environment and art. Due to the gallery¡¯s active participation in public art projects which began in 2006, we earned a reputation of art consultant who harmonizes the eco-friendly and high-value artworks with any given environment. It largely owes to our established philosophy, which focuses on harmonization of environment and art by considering various contexts around the architecture, rather than perceiving public art as mere decoration.
Gaain Gallery has been successful in understanding and fulfilling our clients¡¯ needs while finding the right artists and artworks that best fit into project¡¯s objective. Our goal is to become a successful middleman between clients and artists by playing a role as a good arbitrator and communicator, and we are confident in what we have done and what we can do from now on.
